Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
What is Drama Camp?
Since 2007, Hope Drama Camp has delivered an exceptional experience for young performers by producing an entire Broadway musical in just five days! This unique adventure is a perfect opportunity for students to learn about community theatre, experience a full production and create lifelong friendships. It’s a God-sized task that we embrace with humor and enthusiasm. Come join us!
Camp is open to performers ages 15-21
For 2023, Hope Drama Camp will take place Monday through Friday, July 24-28, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Performances will be Friday, July 28 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, July 29 at 2:00 PM & 7:00 PM.
Due to the condensed nature of Camp, it is critical that every Camper is present for all rehearsals and all performances. Camp will begin and end promptly each day, and there will be no excused absences.
Auditions
Every Camper is guaranteed a place in the show! However, auditions are still required as they are an important part of the experience, and they allow us to find the best role for each Camper.
Auditions will be held in-person at Hope Theater. You will need to select one audition date (July 8, 9, or 10). There will not be callbacks.
A few things to note:
Arrive early! Remember that your audition begins the moment you enter our doors. Be respectful, professional and encouraging to your fellow performers. We will also share important information at the start of each audition block.
Come prepared to perform 30-60 seconds of a song from a Broadway musical (other than Little Mermaid). You will perform acapella (no tracks or live accompaniment). A musician will be available to provide you with a starting note if needed. Select a song that demonstrates your vocal range and skill, and allows you to express character.
Be prepared to dance and learn a piece of the show’s choreography. Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). Bring a water bottle.
Be prepared to stay for the entire time. We will try and release everyone early, but it’s important we give everyone an equal chance to shine.
More information on auditions (including Cast descriptions) will be shared closer to the audition dates.
